Dragon Ball Super Episode 29 Summary

The last episode of Dragon Ball Super ended with Champa proposing a martial arts tournament between Universe 6 & Universe 7 with the prize being a wish upon the Super Dragon Balls, and Goku & Vegeta accepting the challenge.

Dragon Ball Super episode 29 picks up right where we left off. Now that Beerus, Goku & Vegeta have accepted Champa’s offer, Champa is giving consideration to where the match should be held. Champa determines the match should be held on the Nameless Planet that floats in neutral space. Vados points out to Champa that the Nameless Planet only has a small sun nearby, and nothing else on it. It doesn’t even have an atmosphere.

Beerus challenges Champa to find a solution since using the Nameless Planet was his bright idea. Champa says fine, and says in that case he will also set the rules. Goku interjects and says he would like the rules to be modeled after the Tenkaichi Budokai World Tournament. Those rules dictate that if you fall out of bounds or give up, you lose. Also, killing, weapons, and drugs are not permitted. Lastly, all entrants must pass a written test. Champa agrees to Goku’s suggestions, and says the tournament will take place in five days.

Champa throws the last dinner egg to Goku, and departs.

We see Vados & Champa departing Beerus’ planet, and Vados asks Champa if he is sure the challenge was a good idea. Champa says yes, citing Goku’s clumsy behavior as reason to believe defeating Universe 7 will not present a challenge. Champa is confident he will end up with Universe 7’s Earth. It’s unclear if Champa realizes Goku and Vegeta were wearing extremely heavy training gear.

Back on Beerus’ Planet, Goku and Vegeta remove their weighted training gear and throw it to the ground. We see each of their outfits begin sinking deep into the ground due to their shear density, illustrating just how heavy the two uniforms are. Perhaps Champa has underestimated their strength.

Beerus and Whis appear above. They’re ready to take a trip to Earth, and tell Goku & Vegeta to hurry.

In the next scene, Beerus & Whis are relaxing on Earth with a tiered trey of desserts between them.

We see that Bulma is extremely upset. It appears she has just been informed of the deal Beerus made with Champa. Whis tells Bulma they need a device that will help them locate the last Super Dragon Ball. Bulma believes if she just modifies the existing Dragon Radar, it could be repurposed to do the job. However, Bulma has another idea – collect the Dragon Balls on Earth and ask Shenron where the last Super Dragon Ball is.

Beerus commands Vegeta to take the Dragon Radar and go gather the Dragon Balls. Vegeta complies and flies off.

Off in space, we see Vados & Champa traveling with the Super Dragon Balls in tow. They’re huge. Vados remarks that transporting them is quite a hassle. They arrive on the Nameless Planet with the Super Dragon Balls, and we see that the Super Dragon Balls are each the same size as the Nameless Planet.

Next, Vados begins working on creating a fighting arena for the tournament. First, she uses her staff to produce a protective dome for the fighters, since the Nameless Planet has no atmosphere. Next, Vados creates a 50×50 meter fighting stage that resembles those we have seen in previous tournaments of Dragon Ball fame. Then, much to Cahmpa’s delight, Vados creates concession stands with snacks. Portraits of Beerus & Champa are created to designate each team’s side of the arena. Lastly, Vados creates spectator stands for people to sit in.

Back on Earth, Vegeta has completed his search for the Dragon Balls. Without wasting any time, they use the Dragon Balls to summon Shenron. Shenron once again sees Beerus and becomes filled with anxiety. Shenron sheepishly remarks that Beerus is spending a lot of time on Earth these days.

Bulma makes her wish, and asks Shenron to help her locate the last Super Dragon Ball. After some effort, Shenron determines that he cannot grant that wish because the Universe is so vast, that locating a single item is beyond is capabilities. Bulma concedes this idea will not work, and leaves to work on the Dragon Radar. Shenron apologizes, and Beerus dismisses him.

Goku realizes he was supposed to use a wish to revive King Kai. We see King Kai looking humorously saddened that Goku forgot about him, especially since he’s been dead since the Cell saga.

Back on the Nameless Planet, Vados has completed construction of the fighting arena. She asks Champa if the five team members have been decided for their side. Champa says no, and remarks that Goku & Vegeta were likely Saiyans. Then he says something interesting: that they should include Saiyans on their team. It appears that Universe 6 has its own Saiyans. Then Champa says they can’t do anything else to prepare for the tournament until Vados fixes his portrait because he looks too fat in it.

Back on Earth, Whis tells Goku that Goku & Vegeta can decide the last two warriors for Universe 7. Whis tells Goku that Beerus has selected a team member named Monaka. This immediately piques Goku’s interest, and he begins asking Beerus if Monaka is strong. Beerus tells Goku that Monaka is indeed, very strong. Beerus tells Goku that, in fact, Monaka is the strongest being he’s ever faced, with Goku being second.

The next morning, we see Bulma hard at work on the Super Dragon Ball radar. She recounts the night before, and we see she asked Beerus why Champa wouldn’t just use the Super Dragon Balls to clone Earth or ask for delicious food every day. Beerus chuckles and tells Bula she may be smart, but still thinks like a human. Beerus explains that the Super Dragon Balls are just an excuse to start a fight. Beerus also explains that gods don’t even make wishes.

Back in the present, Bulma is seen making a phone call. She is calling her older sister, Tights, who she asks about Jaco’s spaceship which is apparently very fast. Tights apparently knows Jaco, and gives him a call asking him to pay Bulma a visit. Jaco isn’t enthused, saying getting involved with Bulma is never a good idea, and tells Tights to say she couldn’t get in touch. Unfortunately for Jaco, Bulma has been on the line listening, and yells at Jaco to come to Earth or she’ll have Vegeta attack the Galactic Patrol Headquarters. Bulma’s threat is very motivating for Jaco, so he hops in his spaceship and departs for Earth.

Next, Bulma activates her newly created Super Dragon Ball radar. Upon powering it up, Goku & Vegeta notice it isn’t picking anything up. Bulma explains that the radar has a limited range, and since they are currently on the edge of Universe 7, the radar is unable to scan the entire universe. She tells them they will need to travel to the center of Universe 7 in order to get a full scan and locate the missing Super Dragon Ball.

As Dragon Ball Super Episode 29 ends, Goku is expressing to Bulma that he wants to meet Monaka no matter what.
