Dragon Ball Super Episode 22 Summary
The last episode of Dragon Ball Super ended with Tagoma facing off with the Z Fighters, and Captain Ginyu emerging from Bulma’s ship.
Dragon Ball Super episode 22 begins where we left off in the last episode – with Tagoma facing off against Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo, Tien, and Master Roshi. Piccolo and Krillin can sense that Tagoma’s power level is much higher than those of the other warriors.
After briefly antagonizing Sorbet, Tagoma approaches the Z Warriors. In the background, we see Captain Ginyu the Frog discretely approaching from behind.
Tagoma asks the Z Warriors who wants to challenge him first. He offers to let them all attack at once, but Piccolo volunteers to go first. Tagoma is unfazed, and tells Piccolo he’ll finish him off in three minutes or less. Piccolo powers up and attacks tagoma. Piccolo throws a punch and strikes Tagoma dead in the face, but his punch has no effect whatsoever. Tagoma retaliates by ripping Piccolo’s arm off and unleashing an assault. Gohan steps in and assaults Tagoma with a ki blast at close range, sending Tagoma flying backwards. Piccolo regenerates his arm.
We then see that Gohan’s ki blast had no effect on Tagoma. Tagoma explains that his training with Frieza has made him very strong. Then, we see a twinkle in the distance. It’s Gotenks – and he immediately headbutts Tagoma in the crotch. That definitely had an effect, and Tagoma screams out in pain as he flies backwards.
Bulma reprimands Gotenks for not staying home, but Gotenks tells her to relax because he is invincible. Gotenks then sets his sights on Frieza. However, just as he is about to challenge Frieza, the fusion wears off, and Gotenks separates into Goten and Trunks. Right away, Frieza recognizes Goten as Goku’s son. Then, he realizes why Trunks looks familiar, as well, and becomes very alarmed. Alarm gives way to anger as Freiza realizes there are far more Saiyans now than there were before he died.
Goten and Trunks retreat, and Frieza commands Tagoma to kill them all. Unfortunately for Tagoma, he is still indisposed tending to his crotch injury. Suddenly, Captain Ginyu appears in front of Tagoma and writes “CHANGE” in the soil. Beams of light shoot from his frog body and Tagoma’s mouth. After years as a frog, Ginyu now takes Tagoma’s body. Needless to say, Captain Ginyu is extremely happy to be restored to a combat-ready body.
Then Ginyu excitedly goes and says hello to Frieza, and strikes a few of his signature Ginyu Force poses to remind Frieza of who he is. Frieza immediately recognizes Ginyu for who he is, and is thrilled to see him. Ginyu then explains how he ended up in the body of a frog.
Now, controlling Tagoma’s body, Ginyu powers up and prepares for combat with the Z Fighters. Ginyu begins his assault, and is able to land blows on all of the Z Fighters. He is much more powerful than Tagoma was. Gohan tells the other Z Fighters he will take on Ginyu. Meanwhile, Bulma begins trying to summon Whis is a giant ice cream sundae.
Back on the Planet of the Gods, we see Beerus lounging and enjoying some pizza. Whis asks Beerus if perhaps it was a bit early to send Goku and Vegeta to the unknown place. Beerus assures Whis that Goku and Vegeta are the type of warriors that get stronger the harder they are pushed.
Then, we finally get a look at this unknown place Goku & Vegeta have been transported to for training. They’re both suspended in the air, seemingly paralyzed. The surrounding environment appears to be rainbow colored clouds. At first, Goku and Vegeta are freaking out because of their paralysis. Then, Vegeta calms himself and realizes that the key to being able to move is to increase and control his energy. Suddenly, he is able to move again. Goku follows Vegeta’s example, and does the same. Vegeta and Goku realize this strange new place is very similar to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Then they realize that, like the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, there must be a place where they can find food and a place to rest. They set out to locate it.
Back on Earth, Gohan is engaged in battle with Captain Ginyu. He is struggling to make a dent in Captain Ginyu, and he realizes he cannot tap into his full potential because he has not been training. However, he is determined to defeat Ginyu. He concentrates his ki and successfully powers up into a Super Saiyan. Captain Ginyu is excited by Gohan’s unleashed power, and attacks Gohan. Immediately, Gohan lands a powerful kick in Captain Ginyu’s gut. Gohan has a clear power advantage.
Then, unexpectedly, a red beam penetrates Gohan’s shoulder. He looks up – it’s Frieza. Frieza tells Captain Ginyu to take a seat – it appears that the sight of Gohan as a Super Saiyan has brought back some bad memories for Frieza, and he wants to take on Gohan himself. Frieza vows to make Gohan suffer before he dies.
Dragon Ball Super episode 22 ends with Piccolo sacrificing himself to protect Gohan from Frieza’s barrage of death beams.
