Dragon Ball Super Episode 20 Summary

The last episode of Dragon Ball Super ended with Frieza emerging from the regeneration chamber fully resurrected.

Dragon Ball Super episode 20 begins where the last episode left off, with Frieza standing before his crew fully resurrected. Frieza doesn’t recognize Sorbet, so Sorbet sheepishly introduces himself. They’re clearly afraid of what Frieza might do next, despite having just resurrected him. Sorbet explains they used the Dragon Balls and the regeneration machine to give him back his life.

After recounting his horrible experience in the hell of Earth, Frieza clenches his fist and vows to get revenge on Goku and Vegeta. Sorbet and Tagoma urge Frieza to first focus on conquering the universe once again. Frieza takes extreme offense to being questioned, and unloads three small energy blasts on Tagoma to silence him. Frieza laments that his army has degraded into a bunch of weaklings in his absence. He is disgusted that there is any apprehension to go and confront a couple of “measly Saiyans”. Tagoma is now critically injured and lying on the floor of the ship.

Sorbet steps forward to warn Frieza that Goku has become much more powerful since their last encounter. Frieza is unfazed – he laughs and says this was to be expected, and that he will just have to become stronger, too. Sorbet tells Frieza that Goku even defeated Majin Buu. This grabs Frieza’s attention, and his demeanor turns serious. Majin Buu and Beerus were the two beings that King Cold told Frieza to avoid confrontation with at all costs. Then Frieza’s gaze becomes inquisitive again, and he expresses that this development will only serve to make things more interesting. Sorbet is perplexed.

Frieza explains that he was born a powerful combat genius, and that he has never actually trained. Frieza decides to embark on four months of training to awake all of the latent power that exists within him. He believes this will suffice to easily surpass Goku and Vegeta.

Back on Beerus’ planet, Whis observes as Vegeta and Goku spar. Whis tells Goku and Vegeta that some of their energy is seeping out as they fight, and in order for them to realize their full potential, they must learn to control their energy and keep it contained. Goku and Vegeta listen to this feedback and resume fighting. Then, something interesting happens – their fists strike, and luminescent blue ki is released from the impact. Whis observes and is surprised that they’ve come so far so fast.

We then see that Beerus has emerged from his sleep and is approaching in his pajamas. He’s still very groggy. A butterfly causes him to sneeze, releasing an orb of energy that destroys a distant planet. As Beerus realizes what is going on, he wants to know how Vegeta and Goku arrived on his planet. Goku explains that they hitched a ride with Whis. Beerus then asks why they wish to become stronger. Goku says he just wants to become stronger for the sake of becoming stronger. Vegeta says he wants to be the strongest, and doesn’t want Goku to surpass him.

In the next scene, there is a time skip: four months have passed. A spaceship arrives on Earth – the passenger exits and is greeted by Goten and Trunks. It’s Jaco, a Galactice Patrolman. He asks Trunks and Goten to retrieve Bulma.

Bulma meets Jaco. Jaco inquires as to who it was that defeated Frieza. Bulma tells him one of the Saiyans was Trunks from the future. Jaco is shocked by this and informs Bulma that Time Travel is a grave crime under Galactic Law. Jaco is also shocked that Goku isn’t an Earthling, but a Saiyan.

Jaco asks to meet with Goku so he can tell him something, but Bulma tells Jaco that Goku is currently training with Beerus. So Jaco reveals his true purpose in coming to Earth, and warns Bulma that Frieza was revived, and is headed for Earth with 1,000 soldiers. Worst yet… he will arrive on Earth in just one hour.

Bulma tells the rest of the Z warriors the bad news. Krillin and Master Roshi meet up with Tien to prepare for the threat. Then, Gohan and Piccolo show up, as well.

Dragon Ball Super episode 20 ends with Frieza arriving on Earth.
