Dragon Ball Super Episode 2 Plot Summary
On the last episode of Dragonball Super, Goku had just received permission from Chichi to depart for King Kai’s planet to train. Dragon Ball Super Episode 2 begins with King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory leisurely traversing their planet in King Kai’s trademark car. However, their leisurely drive is short-lived.
King Kai decides to hit the gas, but just then, Goku uses instant transmission to appear directly in front of King Kai’s driving path, causing him to fishtail out of control and destroy his house.
In the next scene, King Kai is seen rebuilding his destroyed home, while Goku is ravenously consuming lunch. Goku points out that King Kai could just use his special powers to fix his house and car, but King Kai insists it’s more fun (and kills time) to do it by hand. King Kai then asks Goku why he has arrived on the planet, to which Goku explains that he wants to train, and where better to do so than on King Kai’s planet which has 10 times the gravity of Earth. Soon after, Goku begins his training.
In the next scene, we see young Trunks and Bulma traveling to an island in a Capsule Corp. jet. Vegeta is standing on top, completely unfazed by any amount of turbulence Bulma can create with her crazy flying.
Once they arrive at the island, Vegeta, Bulma and Young Trunks are scene in a gift shop. Bulma asks Vegeta what compelled him to take a break from his training to take them on a family vacation. We briefly see a flashback in which Vegeta tells Young Trunks that if he can land one blow on Vegeta’s face, he will take the family on a vacation. To Vegeta’s chagrin, Trunks lands a punch. Bulma also points out that since defeating Majin Buu, Vegeta has been a little different. The implication seems to be that he’s a little softer and approachable, but the subsequent scenes show him to be as serious as ever as he seems to struggle to have fun in mundane circumstances (such as eating ice cream or going on an amusement ride). This is even more apparent in the next scene when Vegeta almost picks a fight with a dinner Octopus and destroys the entire restaurant after being accidentally covered with ink.
We then get a bit of insight into what is occupying Vegeta’s thoughts. While at a dance gathering, Vegeta is having an internal dialogue. Vegeta is perplexed that, even after defeating Majin Buu, Goku continues to train so hard. Vegeta is still very much consumed by needing to be competitive with if not superior to Goku. Becoming stronger through training occupies every waking second of Vegeta’s thoughts, and he feels that even just going on a family vacation is causing him to fall behind.
Somehow, while in the midst of contemplating these training concerns, the host of the dance event singles out Vegeta as not having fun. To the crowd’s shock, Vegeta powers up ever so slightly, and flies away.
The location changes, and we are now light years from Earth. Beerus and Whis are whizzing through space, and Whis informs Beerus they are two minutes from their destination. The two powerful beings arrive on a primitive planet where a tribe of six-eyed creatures have just taken down a large creature that resembles a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Whis reveals himself to the tribe leader, who is proudly standing atop the kill as his tribesmen transport the dinosaur.
Whis tells the tribe leader to hand over the dinosaur meat – Beerus wants to taste it. The tribe leader refuses, and transforms to confront Whis. Beerus shows up, and after a short time launches an assault on Beerus, who effortlessly deflects all of the creatures blows with just a finger. In a last ditch effort, the tribe leader launches a projectile fire blast from his mouth, which Beerus contains and returns, neutralizing the tribe leader.
As the dust from the battle settles, Beerus alludes to a mysterious figure he saw in a dream, but he cannot recall who it was. As he tries to remember, Beerus nonchalantly drops a very small orb of his energy into the surface of the prehistoric planet, destroying it.
Old Kai and Kibito Kai feel this energy, and Old Kai realizes it Beerus, who has awoken after 39 years. This terrifies him.
Back on Earth, we see Vegeta in the Capsule Corp. gravity training chamber. He set the gravity to 150 times Earth, and begins to train by avoiding laser blasts. Simultaneously, Goku is training on King Kai’s planet by pulling sleds with thousands of tons of weight on them. Vegeta vows that he will become the strongest fighter.
Back in space, Beerus and Whis admire the glowing, exploding remains of the prehistoric planet. Beerus continues to try to remember the name of the person he saw in his dream, whom he reveals that he believes will entertain him. He remembers and exclaims, “Super Saiyan God!”.
However, Beerus is still uncertain. Whis and Beerus return to their castle for dinner.
