Dragonball Super Episode 1 Plot Summary
Dragon Ball Super Episode 1 opens with a recap of the events of the Majin Buu saga that concluded Dragonball Z. The final battle between Majin Buu and Goku are showcased.
After receiving some backstory, we fast forward to the present day in which Goku is scene on a tractor performing uncharacteristic chores and manual labor. He’s not wearing his trademark orange gi. Instead, he’s wearing tan working outfit and white scarf, and performing farmers’ work instead of training in martial arts.
Goku is then greeted by his son, Goten, who has brought him lunch in the form of a feast of sushi. Dragonball fans will of course remember that the only thing Goku may enjoy as much as fighting is eating.
Next, we see the Goku is his same old self – he goes Super Saiyan and begins to sneak in some training while out in the fields. Goten begins to drive the tractor off a cliff, but Goku takes a break from his training to quickly save the tractor. Just then, it is seen in a quick flashback that Chi Chi has forbidden Goku from training, and has commanded that he earns an “honest” living to support the family in a more traditional way.
We are then introduced to two key, and very powerful, characters in Dragonball Super. The first is Beerus, the God of Destruction, and Whis, an angel charged with the responsibility of tending to Beerus. They are partaking in a feast on a planet of humanoid warthogs. The warthog humanoids are serving a meal to Beerus, but after a few seconds Beerus suddenly decides to destroy the entire planet. When Whis asks him why he did it, he says he enjoyed the food, but too much fat is bad for the heart. This gives us an indicator of how clinical Beerus is about his destruction responsibilities.
Back on Earth, we get our first look at a slightly older Mr. Satan (also known as Hercule). He’s giving an interview to a roomful of reporters, who make it apparent that he is still revered as the most powerful human on and savior of Earth. Just then, Majin Buu walks in and to the reporters’ surprises, expresses frustration with Mr. Satan, exclaiming that he’s hungry. Mr. Satan explain to the press that Majin Buu is his humble disciple whom he is giving special training too. Mr. Satan sends Majin Buu out of the room, and Majin Buu is incredibly angry. In the next scene Mr. Satan is seen trying to calm Buu down by massaging his shoulders and offering him food.
Next, Gohan and Videl are seen walking down the street together. Gohan looks much more academic and scholarly than when we last saw him. It is obvious that he has not been training. Piccolo is seen overhead expressing frustration as he observes Gohan and Videl.
We then see young Trunks and Goten hanging out together. They mention that Gohan and Videl are now married. Next, Gotenks and Trunks discuss what wedding present to purchase for Videl. They hear from an old man that there exists a water that rejuvenates old skin like magic. They set out to obtain some of the magic water, only to end up in a confrontation with a giant serpent. Eventually, having run out of patience, Trunks easily overpowers and scares off the snake. Back at home, they give Videl the water, which they now call “skin toner”, and Videl placates young Trunks and Goten by telling them how much she loves it.
In the final scene, Goten is recounting the battle with the snake to Goku as they look out at the sunset. Just then, Mr. Satan pulls up with his driver to tell Goku that he was awarded the World Peace Prize, which came with a handsome reward of 100 Million Zeni. Mr. Satan offers the 100 Million Zeni to Goku, saying he is the rightful recipient of the money, but Goku says it’s too much and turns it down at first. Mr. Satan explains that he was already turned down by Vegeta, and that Vegeta is the wealthiest man in the world because of Capsule Corporation. Goku, after some persuasion, accepts the reward. He is then seen at home and Chichi is thrilled with the money.
Now that Chichi has the 100 Million Zeni, she gives Goku permission to go train on King Kai’s planet.
Old Kai and Kibito Kai are seen looking off into space, expressing concern and intrigue that so many stars have been disappearing.
Which Characters Are In Dragonball Super, Episode 1?
We are introduced to many returning characters from Dragonball, as well as some new ones. Goku, Gohan, Goten, Chichi, Roshi, Videl, Mr. Satan, Bulma, Young Trunks, Old Kai, Kibito Kai and Majin Buu are seen.
Two new and key characters are introduced in Dragonball Super Episode 1, Beerus and Whis.
