Dragon Ball Super Episode 31 Summary
The last episode of Dragon Ball Super ended with Goku and Vegeta deciding to train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, having just completed recruiting Majin Buu and Piccolo for the Universal Tournament team.
Dragon Ball Super Episode 31 begins with Jaco in his spaceship en route to Earth. Jaco seems somewhat annoyed at always receiving orders from various people. Jaco laments that he’s supposed to be on vacation. Jaco decides to have some fun, and accidentally destroys a galactic monument. His superiors instantly detect this, and ask Jaco to report on the situation. Jaco insists it is an outlaw that is known for ditching checks at restaurants.
In the next scene, we see that Jaco has arrived on Earth and is kneeling on the ground with his hands over his head and his back to Bulma, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Goku. Bulma has a disapproving look on her face and asks what his problem is. Jaco responds by saying that it’s her fault (likely referring to the monument he just destroyed), but does not elaborate further. Jaco then changes the subject to Bulma’s request to travel to the center of Universe 7.
Jaco suddenly spins around and tells Bulma that her request is unreasonable because of the sheer size of the universe. Bulma explains it was not her intention to use Jaco’s ship, but rather just wants him to transport her to Galactic Patrol HQ, theorizing someone there may be able to help. Jaco indignantly tells Bulma that his patrol unit only has jurisdiction in the Milky Way Galaxy, and that nobody would know how to get all the way to the center of the universe. Just then, Goku walks in, and Bulma laments that she can’t count on Goku or King Kai, or anyone else for that matter.
Jaco says that since he cannot help, he will be on his way. Just as he turns to leave, Bulma puts her hands on his shoulders and tries once more to enlist Jaco’s help. Jaco points out that Bulma may be a little too old to act cute to get what she wants from people. This enrages Bulma and she punches Jaco in the face. This jogs Jaco’s memory, and he tells Bulma that there is a being named Zuno that may be able to help. Apparently, Zuno knows everything. Jaco is positive that Zuno will know the location of the last Super Dragon Ball.
Jaco and Bulma get into the Galactic Patrol ship and depart Earth to see Zuno.
Goku points out that both he and Vegeta picked strong wives. Vegeta explains it is because Saiyan women are strong, so naturally they would be attracted to strong women like Bulma and Chichi.
In the next scene, we see Bulma and Jaco traveling through space to see Zuno. Bulma suggests that Jaco bring his girlfriend, but it is then revealed that Jaco was dumped. Jaco then tells Bulma she has changed over the years. We see a flashback in which we learn that Jaco knew Bulma and her sister, Tights, when they were just children. Jaco expresses that, at one time, he thought Bulma would have made a great member of the Galactic Patrol.
Bulma and Jaco arrive on Zuno’s planet. Zuno lives in a large structure that resembles a traditional Japanese pagoda.
Bulma and Jaco are greeted by a group of Zuno’s peers. Apparently, Zuno already knew they were coming. One of Zuno’s assistants tells Bulma & Jaco that their turn to speak with Zuno isn’t for 7 more years.
By an extraordinary coincidence, the outlaw Geppuman, who Jaco blamed for the destruction of the monument, appears and has a scheduled appointment with Zuno. Jaco realizes that if he arrests Geppuman, they may be able to take Geppuman’s appointment slot to meet with Zuno. Jaco is having difficulty making the decision to arrest Geppuman, and Geppuman makes his way to see Zuno. Then, Jaco finds the courage to make move and tells Geppuman to stop. Geppuman tries to take Zuno’s assistant hostage, and Jaco, using some fancy moves, neutralizes Geppuman.
The attendants are very grateful, and agree to enter Bulma and Jaco’s names into the appointment book so they can have an audience with Zuno.
In the next scene, we see Jaco and Bulma standing in front of Zuno. Zuno tells Bulma that she isn’t his type, and also too old, so she gets three questions. Bulma accidentally wastes her first wish, then asks Zuno to tell her ‘everything’ about the Super Dragon Balls.
Zuno explains that the Super Dragon Balls, also known as “Wish Orbs”, were created by the Dragon God Zalama in the 41st year of the Divine Calendar. There are 7 Super Dragon Balls, each of which are perfectly spherical, and scattered throughout Universe 6 and Universe 7. Interestingly, Zuno also says that the Red Starfish symbol on each Super Dragon Ball looks identical from every angle, and that Zalama actually obtained a patent for them in the 42nd year of the Divine Calendar. Zuno tells Bulma that, in order to make a wish, the 7 Super Dragon Balls must be gathered into one place, and the collector must say, “Come Forth, Dragon of the Gods and grant my wish pretty peas!” A single wish will be granted.
Somehow, despite receiving all of this information, Bulma doesn’t learn the location of the last Super Dragon Ball. She wastes a couple of her questions on unintentional questions, and then tries to coax Zuno to grant her a few more by kissing him on the cheek. He refuses, and his attendant forcefully escorts Bulma off the premises.
In the next scene, Bulma & Jaco are departing Zuno’s planet in his spaceship. The two are heard reprimanding each other for wasting their questions.
Time fast forwards, and we see Bulma & Jaco back on Earth recounting their experience with Zuno to Goku & Vegeta. Jaco describes the size of Zuno’s massive head to Goku.
Jaco approaches Bulma and tells her he has to get going. She gives him a care package – it’s a box full of cheese and milk. Jaco is appreciative.
Dragon Ball Episode 31 ends with Galactic Patrolman Jaco whizzing through space in his ship, contemplating how he will repent for destroying the national monument earlier. We also see he has Geppuman tied up in the back.
